NLMA Gerald F. Lynch Essay Award in Medical History and Humanities
The Gerald F. Lynch Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a medical student at Memorial University for the completion of a research paper on a medical history or medical humanities topic. Gerald Lynch (1936-1994) served as Executive Director of the NLMA for 27 years. This scholarship's focus reflects the contribution Mr. Lynch made to health care policy, both provincially and nationally.
NLMA President's Scholarship
The NLMA awards two (2) scholarships to third-year medical students each year. They are based on good academic standing and potential interest in the organizational aspects of the medical profession, as judged by contributions to the governance of Memorial University of Newfoundland's Faculty of Medicine. Recipients are selected by the Pre-Clerkship Promotions Committee and approved by the Dean of Medicine's Committee on Awards, Bursaries and Scholarships.
NLMA Dr. Phyllis H. Madryga Scholarship
Dr. Phyllis H. Madryga provided many years of dedicated service to the people of rural Newfoundland and Labrador. While she is currently enjoying retirement, she remains a strong supporter of medical graduates from Memorial University who choose to stay in this province. The Dr. Phyllis H. Madryga Scholarship is awarded annually to a student from rural Newfoundland and Labrador in their final year of medical school with plans to practice rural medicine. Academic achievement, strong personal values and leadership within the Faculty of Medicine are also considered.
NLMA TD Insurance Health and Well-Being Award
The NLMA TD Insurance Health and Well-Being Award is awarded to students who demonstrate a commitment to achieving healthy work-life balance, as well as promoting a culture of health and well-being among peer colleagues. Two scholarships, valued at $1,500 each, are awarded annually following a competition in the form of an essay of 500 words or less. The scholarship is open to all undergraduate medical students.
NLMA Bursary Program
The NLMA Bursary Program provides bursaries to medical students in Newfoundland and Labrador-funded seats at Memorial University's Faculty of Medicine. Bursaries are sponsored through NLMA member and corporate donations.
NLMA Leadership Scholarship
The NLMA Leadership Scholarship is granted annually in recognition of the NLMA’s mission to “represent and support a united medical profession and provide leadership in the provision of excellent health care in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
NLMA Resident Travel Award
NLMA Resident Travel Award is granted annually to assist residents with the costs associated with travel to a conference. One travel award will be granted to a family medicine resident and the other to a specialty resident.
